Which graphic card?

Cheers

Do any of you guys have experience with using two graphic cards!

I was gonna go for the NVidia 8800gtx or something but a friend of mine asked what about using two, like two ATI HD 2900 XT.

Would I get anything out of a dual setup compared to a single card in regards to MAX... Oh and I am gonna update my MAX to 9

Thanx

I'm no hardware expert but from what I've heard you don't really benefit from having dual or superpowerful graphics cards for 3D work. I'm actually looking at getting an 8800gts when I build my new computer

Well you do benifit a little. But if you want to get high end cards like those you better be a gamer as well or its going to waiste...

Personaly I would choose the 8800 gtx... Heck the machine im building after teh summer willb e a dual 8800 gtx SLIed... Avoid the 8800 Ultra though the performance increase is no ware near enough to warrent the extra few hundred youll be paying for it.

Also the concensis of most people is right now ATI suck badly. There current range of cards are really poor. Not to mention Cross Fire is crap. Believe me Im not Nvidia arse licker as I went with the ATI9800 over Nvidia as at the time Nvidia was crap.

As much as I dislike ATi, to say they are crap is bull****. ATi's top notch card can not compete with NVidia's. However, ATi's pricing is very good. So if you want good performance for a good price, ATi's a real alternative.

If you want power, NVidia's the way to go though.

I think that i read some where that if you have your graphic cards setup in SLI then you can only use one monitor but i would look into that to see if it is true as it`s better to have two monitor`s than one when using MAX

I have a dual monitor setup I am running a Mac G4 with two video cards.
it's an older setup so there are limitations.
Having 2 monitors is always a plus, tools on one screen and art on the other.
This works well for a variety of software apps, and once you go dual, you'll never go back.

I can't say too much about PC video cards but all the newer cards today support a dual monitor set up so you'll be fine. What I am running into a far as problems are: my video cards aren't the same so I have a very small sync issue ( when going from screen to screen) and the color balance is off a bit.
so one monitor is brighter and bluer than the other.
From what I understand . . . if you have one video card you will avoid these particular hangups. as the resolution and color will match. However if you get 2 cards make sure they are the exact same. I am not sure if you will NOT have sync and color issues but the chances will be smaller if the cards are the same.

Or instead, you could get a Colorimeter like the Spyder2. They are cheap and you'll get your monitors properly set up. I highly recommend using these when you do any kind of computer generated / aided art anyways.

i don't do 2 monitors anymore..i rather have a 24" LCD then 2 small ones. as for video cards, Nvidia have always been better for Open GL, but never that much more expensive then ATi.

Well I use a 24" as well ... and still I'd like a second display. Widescreen is nice, but for me, just not widescreen enough ....
