TS users running Win XP MC

Any TrueSpace users here run Windows XP Media Center edition?

I've been trying to use the TrueSpace 7.1 Trial and the free TS 3.2. They install fine, but when I try to open them they freeze up. They use about half of my CPU but don't do anything.

It's be nice to be able to use them, I model with Wings and Wings doesn't render well. Maybe someone can suggest another free rendering program?

Any ideas? thanks

I don't think it's a windows MC issue. My son's computer has MC and I've run TS 6.6 and 7.5 on it without any problems.

Sounds more like an install issue with TS...or possibly Media Center is missing some crucial files??

Also, you might want to check out the demo trial of TS 7.5...it's just been released as of a couple of days ago at Caligari.

that was a typo, I meant TS 7.5 trial.

I installed, uninstalled, reinstalled each several times but they still don't work. can't figure out what might be wrong, on my laptop (uses XP home) they both work fine (though I don't have enough memory for 7.5).

thanks for your help!

maybe your directx is out of date? or your video drivers?
to be honest I don't know . . .

I run it on xp pro, so I have no experience with media center . . .

tS 3.2 shouldn't require that new a version of directX. It can also run on pretty old PCs. That's odd that it's not working. Maybe something to do with your video card. Try lowering your hardware acceleration settings and see if you can get tS 3.2 to load. As for 7.5, that's a whole different story. I hear it's a beast and requires a really good PC to run.

As for your other question; is there another free renderer? Ozylot uses Wings to model and he renders in Kerkythea, it's a free rendering program. In fact, you'll most likely get a much nicer render with that than you will with tS 3.2. tS 3.2 is 10 years old and its rendering tools aren't all that spiffy. Here's the link for Kerkythea: Kerkythea

uninstalling doesan't always help... (if you know how to do it) What you should do is uninstall the TS trial, then remove any entries for TS in your registry, (WARNING< ADVANCED USER ONLY)

in thr Run menu of start, type regedit and hit OK. Use File to back up your registry or create a system restore point before proceeding. Incase you fubar windows any more.

use File: Find or CTRL+F to locate and delete any registry entries that point to True Space or the name of the company that manufactured it. there may be several dozen entries even after a Uninstall, which is why they don't always work.

Restart your PC and try to reinstall again. Failing this, I'd say redownload truespace incase you got a corrupted download, and make sure you have the latest vid card drivers.
