The sillyness of our beloved junkers...

Well nearly every message board has had one...A thread where members post their proud pictures of their custom shiny rides, their fast sleek sports cars, lifted rugged and equipped off road machines...show quality vehicles of every shape and size...

So here I thought let's turn this around and delve into the other side of the equation. Many of us, probably most of us drive cheap or run down old junkers and are proud of it...We develop a more special relationship with the ride that barely gets us there but does so enthusiastically every time...

A fancy, shiny custom car takes only money to feign pride...Pride in a junker..Well that takes a special kind of person indeed so post em up peeps...Show off your shame and joy...Gives us a glimpse of something silly about your beloved barely roadworthy beast..And let's see who has the biggest POS out there, list everything wrong with it...

Here is mine:

1999 Jeep Wrangler.. 102,000 miles

Problems:

Cracked exhaust manifold
Fowled valves
Low compression
Bad fuel mileage from above problems, about 15mpg
Floor rusting out
Dashboard connection corroded causing intermittent failure of instruments (fixed with a Fonzareli smack every time)
Paint peeled off both mirror mounts and tailgate door hinges
Soft top falling apart literally at the seems
Rims corroded and starting to pit
Paint fading badly with plentiful blemishes and dings
Right off road light shorted out

Tis a bout it..

Here is my baby, I've named her Uma after Uma Thurman...I was being a total goof ball at Deal's Gap as I was coordinating a woman's motorcycle rally that I couldn't ride in because I crashed my bike a few days earlier..So I decided to do a little corner carving in the Mighty Uma!

**Sigh**...Neither a junker or a silly pic.....It at least needs a dent or something to qualify for the thread parameters..And you in it having a pic nic on the hood or something...

Who said anything about it being dangerous? A Junker is a special thing, dude. Cars that we would love to replace but lack the money or the will to do so. Cars that get noticed because they are so full or personality one can't help but to give a thumbs up to the driver.

I didn't mean to offend you Darkness but the thread isn't about average cars. You have a nice ride their. A BMW is something I have always wanted to have. But it's not a junker. It looks good and runs good. That was just off the mark of the topic. No need to get snippy.

I had a better pic but can't find it. oh well. I'd hardly call her a junker, but here you go...

1994 Jeep Wrangler

problems:
driverside interior door handle broken

driverside soft window has been slashed (took it to Knott's Berry Farm... dumb@$$ mistake)

tires worn/ looking to fund replacement soon

electrical harness and wiring system need overhaul

4th gear starting to give me problems (already replaced 5th)

paint peeling on hood

front left turn signal burnt out

awesomeness:
don't lose any power when I hit a hill - watch everyone else on the freeway just slow down!

goes up, down, sideways, anywhere - off-roading/ camping is really fun

gets better mileage (19-21mpg) than it's supposed to

everyone pays attention - this isn't an ego trip, but it's really nice when you can automatically make eye contact with other drivers

NO BLIND SPOTS WHATSOEVER

turns on a dime

when people hit you it's ALL their problem - a ford F150 turned left in front of me and hit me head-on: his whole front end was smashed but it only tweaked the top corner of my bumper. you had to look hard to find the damage!

way efficient air conditioning

easy access

easy cleaning (drainage holes in the deck)

fun, bouncy ride (Indiana Jones and the Jeep Wrangler of Doom)

Oh no my friend...you do indeed have a Junker! And she's a beauty! Gota love Junker Jeeps...I wish I still had a picture of it , but my friend used to have a 1982 Chevy Chevette, we just called "The Vette" that had holes rusted all the way through the hood and quarter panels. The bumper was tied on with rope and the left headlight was actually from a Ford F-150 that we had safety wired to the front frame to hold it on....But it purred like a kitten when it actually ran...Pure unadulterated Junkerness!

Heheh nah. There's a Jeep up the street that looks similar to that one. Can't really tell from this angle, though. I'm gonna laugh if Traq lives up the street from me.
