Starship Troopers 3

Starship Troopers: Marauder (2007)

Don´t know if it´s been mentioned in here before (search function didn´t return anything of that kind) or if it´s just a hoax but I´d kill to see a sequel to the first movie, done in the same vein (not like that direct-to-video crap they produced a few years ago).
Not sure about you others but I still love Verhoeven´s movie. Nowadays maybe even more than back then. The story is cheesy as hell, he even selected actors from soap operas to make sure the acting wouldn´t be worth sh!t and crowned it with effects which can still hold their own after almost ten years. All in all the prefect look and feel of a propaganda movie for a war fought by a totalitarian regime because in their opinion the universe isn´t big enough to allow for intelligent life on both halves of the galaxy (although sometimes it´s debatable whether there is any on this end of the galaxy).

Has anyone else heard anything of this second sequel?

Somebody blow something up, I'm in a really bad mood. Thanks in advance.

Ye gods I hope not. I never saw the second one, but the first one was such a piece of garbage. They took one of the greatest sci-fi/war novels ever written and turned it into utter bile. May Verhoven be condemned to the hell where you're forced to watch Uwe Boll Movies for eternity while being buggered the entire time for making that piece of trash.

Nice to see some people still don´t get the idea behind the movie even after ten years.

It was deliberately left open to different interpretations, so it's hardly surprisiing! I loved the first one on different levels, from the classic b-movie pure cheese of the dialogue, through the various homages to classic movies such as Zulu, all the way through to the political allegory, but I can understand why people don't like it too.

The second movie was made purely by an internal team after the first did very, very badly at the box office. If I remember right it was made for a total of around $6m, which is nothing for an effects movie, but certainly explains why it was such a mess story-wise. However, it was still a great achievement to do it on the budget. It scores a big fat meh for entertainment, but a good mark for success in the face of very limited resources.

Verhoven was interested in doing a sequel when the original was released, but realised that the studio would never fund it. He said that he was planning to bring more elements of the original stories into the sequel, but it never appeared.

Edit: It would be really cool if they could kill Brenda Strong for a third movie in a row if the film gets made

I haven't watched it in a while, and the 2nd was definately crap, but I wouldn't mind seeing a real sequel. There is just not enough scifi infantry battles in Hollywood. Even if it weren't the best movie ever made it would be a nice change from the general flow of bad movies.

Jack O'Neill: Ba'al, come on. You should know. Of course, I dare mock you.

I might have to watch it again. I can't remember if it came under "So bad it was good" or just "So bad it was just plain bad"... I love the former and hate the latter, and I'm pretty sure it was the latter

The first movie has some tonal inconsistencies that throw people, but it's right in line with Verhoven's other sci-fi. He always has some element of satire of fascist regimes in his sci-fi. See Robocop and Total Recall for comparison. Starship Troopers is in the same vein, only more so. Listen to Verhoven's DVD commentary if you want more insights into what he was thinking.

Hey guys, pardon me for putting in my 2 cents. But not being confined to one genre of sci fi I feel its my duty to just point out that it(the first one) was portrayed simply as a semi over the top shoot-em-up....that being said I think they did fairly well at pulling off that. Was it realy more than that?...no probably not. I guess the point is that its just something to watch. For my part I enjoyed it. Thats just one guys opinion.( Heard bad things about the 2nd one) A third one, eh, who knows?

I get the movie and if it had any other title I would probably like it, but the fact that they "based" it on the book makes it utter garbage. The only thing it has in common with the book are the title, some character names and a few choice scenes. Everything else is wrong, wrong, wrong. If it had been named just "Roughnecks" or "Troopers" with the statement that it was an homage to the book without trying to be the book, then no problem. I am just one of those people that thinks that when a movie is "based on the book" that it should be based on the book. For the same reasons I can't stand the following movies: I-Robot, Vlad Stoker's Dracula, etc...
