John Birmingham's Alternate History Series...Anyone else read it?

I'm just curious as to who else has read John Birmingham's Weapons of Choice, Designated Targets, and Final Impact of his alternate history trilogy and what they've thought about it. I'm about finished with Designated Targets atm, and I've really enjoyed the series so far.

yeah, I've read all three books
They're a good read and leave you wanting more actually
I'd highly recommend them.

'Just a Battlestar, Sir.' - Starbuck

Another alternate timelines series to check out is John Barnes' Timeline Wars trilogy (Caesar's Bicycle, Washington's Dirigible and Patton's Spaceship), and also the stand-alone novel Finity

It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive...

It might be worth checking out. Just curious...how do Birmingham and Barnes compare to Turtledove's alternative history novels? Any distinct difference in story telling, authentic reliance on pivotal events or historic characters, etc?

He has a very good series based on the idea of what might happen if the South had survived the Civil War. Very interesting stuff, Woodrow Wilson is president of the Confederacy during WW I, Custer survives the 19th century, the US attacks Pearl Harbor in the British-controlled Sandwich Islands, etc.

That sound positively fascinating. Anyway, I must confess that I had an ulterior motive to start this thread. I'm of the opinion that the concept behind this particular series could make an excellent TV show, or, as in my case, a Virtual Series. Right now I'm working on designing the ships and drawing them in 2D, but if this little idea of mine interests anyone, please let me know.

Sounds like interesting stuff. I haven't read or even heard of any of them but the stuff on the American Civil War sounds good and alternative histories are usually quite fascinating.

Check out the film "The Final Countdown" and the anime/manga "Zipan" as well. Both are about ships of the present being thrown back to the WWII era.
