The oddestthing is that Dave Richards and his wife (chief of ProDrive) nearly met the same fate coming back from Belgium last night, only hours after making tribute to Colin with the media. From the sounds of things, he was making a final approach to Stansted in his helicopter when the 'transmission failed'.

It landed badly and turned on its side, but luckily they were able to walk away from the crash. Because he was talking to air-traffic control at the time of the failure, the emergency services were there almost as he hit the ground.

Coincidence or what?

No question is a stupid question if you don't know the answer - If you need help (and you can find us), ask the (Sens)A-Team.

Very odd coincidence- Dave Richards is a lucky man indeed.

Was very shocked to hear this, Colin McRae is a bit of a legend for people my age especially- him and Tommi Maakinen are credited with pretty much singlehandedly making Japanese "rice rockets" cool- everyone I know wanted a Subaru Impreza 22B for years after that win.

He's a great loss to motorsport, and I'm sure will be missed greatly.

They should ban racing drivers from owning helicopters, more drivers die in helicopter crashes than car crashes.

I read about this last night on Teletext, also with the crash in Tilland, it’s like yesterday was not a good day to fly.

Cheers for the link Andrew.

It was very sad news indeed - very sad news at the end of a bad week in motorsport generally - and Dave Richards is a very very lucky man indeed. McRae was definitely a legend though; he did a lot to make the WRC as popular as it is today.
