How do Trek ship phasers work?

Been wanting to model a trek ship for awhile now and I don't really know how the phasers work. I've always imagined they were guns that would slide around in trenches in the hull.

So, ya, just wanting to clear that up before I go around making unnecessary trenches in the ship.

I would have a signature if I didn't have such bad handwriting.

The ST:TNG Technical Manual has some info
The phaser strip is an array of emitters, so as the beam moves new non-overheated emitters are used. The phasers do not move along the trench but are imbedded in the trench.

Hope this helps

Well, the director says we need some cool weapons FX, and he tells the TD, who tells the FX guys, who produce these really cool FX, that's it really.

His Wife is a figment, he's married to his right hand, the twat.

Yea, according to the manual, it's a ring of hundreds of tiny emitters, each capacitor fills up and discharges into it's partner emitter, and so on, so forth, until the emitter that's supposed to fire the beam, is reached. Then it fires the built up energy from that emitter.

Current WIPS: None 'cause I'm a lazy bastard.

Dead simple.
Energy from the power system of the ship (the EPS) is lead into some prefire chamber and from there sent to other chamber (that're the yellow flashes along the trenches before the beam goes out), this is just so that the beam get's more power (guess that's gotta do something with kinetic energy though iz's uselsee). At the desire emitter it's set free and directed by lenses and crystals and stuff.

See the Shadows of Darkness, Hear the Scream of Cruelty...

That's why I've became a Warrior of Heart, Defend the one you like, Guard the one you love...
