XP help Yeah, it's me again. I know just enough about computers to really screw things up unfortunately. ![]() I need help with my XP machine. While attempting to set up my computer so I could transfer the files to my new machine, I somehow changed the settings for start-up and shut-down. Usually, when I start-up or shut-down, I get a screen with icons for signing in, and a little window box with icons for shutting down, hibernating, or putting it in stand-by. Also, when I hit ctrl-alt-delete the task manager would just come up right away. Now, I get a sign-in box when I start up, a window with a drop-down menu for shut-down, and when I hit ctrl-alt-delete, the screen turns blue and gives me a dialog box with buttons on it asking me what to do, and one of the options is to open the task manager. Basically what my computer at work does. Does anyone know how to reverse the settings to get it back to the way it was?

No, it's not the start menu, it's that screen you get when you first turn the computer on to sign in. If you don't have a password you can just click on the icon you piced out that represents your account (in my case the only one on there), or if you do when you click on it you get a little space to type your password into. Then when you go to turn it off, you click on the orange button along the bottom of the start menu and you would get a small box that appears over the top of everything with three button icons - one for stand by mode, one for shut down, and one for restart.

Ok, I got it figured out. I found out what I was talking about was called the "Welcome Screen", and that it was turned off because I had installed Client Service for NetWare in my attempt to network my two computers together. I uninstalled it and turned the welcome screen back on, so it's back to the way it was.

| SFM Oracle | That's it. Without a password, you could also just take a CD with all dangerous malwares and hit the install-button. |

Just reading over your first post, you turned your welcome screen off in "user accounts". That means that your switch user option is gone and windows will change it's login/logout/task manager to a Windows NT style and layout, rather then that crappy "flightly" blue screen with icons to click on to login. EDIT: I just noticed you found that out yourself. Nevermind then
