New system - Xeon vs. Athlon

I've just put together a new workstation. Decided to do some render benchmarks and here's one of the results.

First shot was on the AMD Athlon X2 4400+ 2.2ghz, 4GB DDR2 @ 400mhz. Render time was +- 30 mins.

Second was done on my new dual quad core Xeon E5335 2.0ghz, 4GB FB-DIMM DDR2 @ 667mhz.

This did the same thing in a shade over 8 mins.

Both rendered in Vray 1.5 RC3 within Max 9 x64.

Both machines running Windows XP Pro x64.

Well, that's quad core for you. My system is the Athlon, pretty much identically. I've got 4 gigs DDR2 800 though

It's not a habit, it's cool, I feel alive...

So, what you are saying is that your faster machine renders quicker?!

/me couldn't resist

Should be upgrading mine in the nearish future, if I can get my 3D mojo back...

I thought Xeon was for servers?
(speaking as a computer engineer who has a PIII 850MHz Xeon lying around with an "as new" Xeon-based server board sat in a box, both of which are at work!!! )

For I dipt into the future, as far as human eye could see,
saw a vision of the world and the wonders that would be...
