Photography: Thinking of getting a Holga . . .

no no not the White Stripes version

Holga - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I dunno . . . something about this dirt cheap, leaky, blurry plastic camera fascinates me
maybe because in 3rd grade I had a similar camera
the camera I had came in a Corn Flakes box and used 110 film cartridges
similar to this only cheaper

I guess it's the extra 'risk' involved with using such a camera. nowadays with digital cameras it seems a lot harder to mess up a picture, yeah you can accidentally under expose, overexpose, blur etc, but because it's digital you know right away because of the viewscreen. with film you don't know until you develop the film, and even more so with something like a Holga which is prone to light leaks, vignetting, chromatic aberration, etc

I subscribe to a couple photo blogs and often I see posts done with Holga or Diana cameras, and I like what I see
the resulting images have unique charm to them that I think would be hard to get with a digital camera

WooHoo! I love my Holga. Go for it man, go for it! You can do some fun stuff with them. Just remember to keep a good supply of electric/Gaffer's tape with ya! This you already know though.

I am in the process of modding my Holga. Already added a filter ring, matted the inside, gonna put fishing weights in it to give it some heft and add a bulb setting for long exposures.

I'm not a Communist...I have a marshmallow

Sounds like you're not trying very hard. I've never met a camera I couldn't outsmart . . . er, I mean out-dumb!

Nah it's just as easy to **** up the picture as with any other camera. Only with a digital camera you can see your mistake and correct it right away ..

And that Holga thingy ... well, in the end it's pretty much lomography. If you're into that, almost any kind of camera will do.

HALT! HAMMERZEIT!
