| Max v4 on Intel Core 2 Duo Processor? Okay, just a hobbyist and splurged on a new computer but can't / won't be buying new version of Max (or LW or any other $$$ 3D prog). I went from a P3 / Win 2000 Pro system to the new Core 2 Duo / Win XP Pro. I know to install Max on XP requires the C-Dilla license manager upgrade. The question is should I even bother? Will it work? (Yeah - I could sit in front of the monitor for awhile and see ) Has anyone already tried this? Is anyone desperate enough to still be running v4 ?Also, there is no way to get the v4 to v4.2 upgrade from Autodesk any longer which included an Intel P4 performance enhancer. Will that matter (obviously not a processor junkie). Thanks for any info! |

I took my own advice and simply installed it. I ran the install without the key lock routine, rebooted, ran the new license key manager and received no errors. I opened Max and got the post install screens where you are asked to register and then what type of video you want to use. I now am running on the 30 day grace period until I get a new authorization key. My biggest concern is that v4 was released when P3 and P4 processors were relatively new and there was a performance patch that came out to address that. My thinking was that the Core 2 would not provide any benefit and would possibly be worse that my P3 system. I loaded up a couple of scenes and the render times do seem to be much faster with just the base release. It may simply be the faster processor coupled with the new ATI card (256MB) and the 4G of system memory. If so, it still beats the heck out of my old system which was the hope. I do hope there are no hidden issues waiting though. Maybe I'll have to start working harder on making Blender work ! | |
