Never mind, I answered my own question...
Went back to the trailer and saw "Star Trek" as the title.

I certainly thought they were created specifically for the teaser, whether or not there'll be anything similar in the final film is anyone's guess, but I think there will be

I've got to say, its a good teaser trailer. And I personally love JJ's Enterprise. It may not be the same as what we had back from the 60's, but it's still a great ship. Was reading other forums such as SCN, Trek BBS and Starship Modeler, where the biggest argument of who likes and dislikes the Enterprise has spurred up big time. I just dont get why some fans couldnt accept this version of Trek and The Big E? I thought the biggest part of being a follower of Trek was not to judge change, but to respect and accept it for what it is. Comments on how some Hate the new ship and how they diss JJ Abram's effort in saving Trek has really made me disappointed in a lot of thes Trekkers. I do remember a lot of fans hating the NX 01 and calling it the Akiraprise, but it did blow over, and i hope we wont start such arguments here on SFM. Just my few cents.

Hmm wish I had thought to say "I thought it was..." originally. Sorry, didn't mean to be so declaratory about it.

Didn't they just start filming? Probably not too many dailies in the can already and it's possible most of the EFX shots won't be finished 'til much later.

It wouldn't be too surprising if they borrowed G.Keorner's mesh or somebody else's, took it apart and added detail, and then added some quick live footage of welders. No?

Or they just used a matte painting.

The Motion Picture was the best film so far and I don't think the enterprise fired a single shot, you don't need guns to make good sci-fi, damn
I HAATED that movie! The visuals were a little annoying, the whole "Enterprise figures out the mystery nano-seconds before destruction, figures out second mystery minutes before earth is doomed" (translations and The Voyager/Creator, respectively) kinda bugged my a bit, Kirk taking over at the last minute and demoting Decker was REALLY anal, IMO (Shoulda been commodore". I felt that the plot was kinda thin, even with Suspension Of Disbelief (SOD).
Just my opinion tho.

@mcmiller: They did not use Gabe's mesh; it's completely different. His is much more "postmodern" similar in surface design to the NX-01. I would not be surprised if he was hired to build the mesh for Star Trek XI; he is an amazing modeler

yeah, I'm sure much of that teaser was some 3d with a lot of 2.5d matte painting work / compositing, etc...

I guess they took "San Fransisco Shipyards" literally.
