I think it's unrealistic of fans to expect the ship to remain the same. The original Enterprise was designed in a time when go go boots ruled the world. It was a nice, simplistic design, but to think that any advanced civilization would create something that looks like a plastic toy is naive to say the least. The fact is in 30 more years, the bridge of the NX-01 will look out of place to be a future design as well. To do any sort of decent retake on the original crew demands a redesign of everything involved and I for one look forward to it. Sure, I'd love to see the original actors back at the helm in the new uniforms as well, but some things you just have to deal with. People need to remember that it's the spirit and story that are important, not the damned nostalgia.

Personally, I love geeky sci-fi fans, hell, I am one, but some of these fanboys are freaking whacked in the head wang baskets. The only reason that the original Trek looked the way it did is because of it's budget, the tech available at the time and our understanding of space. I think that in going back to that period, to not take a fresh new look at things and update the look to reflect our current knowledge and capabilities would be both irresponsible and disrepectful to everything that Gene wanted for his story and characters.

Do you think that if Gene had access to today's tech and funds that anything in the original series would have looked the way it did? Very unlikely. He had to make due, today we don't.

To everyone who keeps insisting a spaceship should be made in space.

Do ocean liners get made in the ocean?

Looks to me like its a purely manufactured teaser trailer that has nothing to do with the actual plot of the film. Kind of like how Pixar's teaser trailers they always do for the upcoming film don't have much to do with the actual story of the film.

I mean, remember First Contact's teaser trailer? That had footage of the Ent-D and scenes from Best of Both Worlds, and a huge borg-ified Trek logo, and I don't recall seeing that in the final movie!

probably. Thats why its called a Teaser trailer - its to start hype, and nothing more. The real trailer contains little extra information, just starts you interested in the plot. If you want to know what the movie's gonna be like, wait a year and find out

I thought the trailer was a bore. But, like homerpalooza said, it is a teaser. And it was cool to get to see the new-ish Enterprise.

My biggest pet-peeve is people saying they have a pet-peeve.

I just hope when the full trailor come out, they don't add bit & peaces form pervious movies and TV shows like they have done in the past. Generation stick most in mind for that one.

Well, at the very least they are made right next to the waters instead of, say, in the middle of a continent . Anyway, there are ways to justify this, I guess.
