Planning to make Planet Earth.

I'm thinking to pick up my earth project from several years ago. To make my
story short.

My first planet looked like hell. And after several tries, it was going in the
good direction, anyway...

The question know is, I posted 2 images below, One from are great member LennO and a second image of Kragh member of (cgtalk) cgsociety.com

Which direction must follow I, the direction of LennO or Kragh?

I'm not asking which image is the best. (I'm will not discuss about this)
I just need a good direction to create a realistic and photoreal earth.

Thanks all for helping

Greetz and regards,
Novak

Both pics look good (although i don't like Kraghs cloudmap to much).
LennOs pic looks like the old apollo pics made back in the 70es while Kraghs pic has been made with a "modern camera" ( ).
So, i think it depends on the look you want for your pics

I can't make a suggestion based on just those pics
how are their techniques different? which do you feel is easier?

I think LennO's one is the better for many reasons, nor only the cloudmap bump but also the overall atmosphere.

I'd go with that any day.

As a suggestion, instead of using others created works as a template, why not use pictures of the actual planet? Nasa has tonnes of them. Of course, that's not saying anything is wrong with either of the posted images, in fact they are both very good, but reality is better.

1) Do not use bump.

2) Do not use bump.

3) Do not use bump.

You may also want to scour those actual photographs for just how much city lights visibility there is in non-illuminated areas.
