Buck Rogers - Directed by Frank Miller

If I wasn't certain of the date, I'd think this was an April Fool's joke, but...

Cinematical is reporting that Frank Miller is set to direct a new Buck Rogers movie from a script by Flint Dille, after Miller completes work on The Spirit film. First reported on IGN, the story quotes a "longtime reliable source" as saying that in the $40 million project, "the cheapness of the low-budget effects will be a running joke in the movie, which will retain the campiness of the 1980s TV series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century starring Gil Gerard."

Is it just me, or does this sound like bad news, rather than good news?

There were two things I liked about the 80's series: Wilma Deering, and the Starfighter. Hawk and his ship were okay, too. The rest? Nah.

I think Miller is a poor choice, the budget is abysmal, and "camp" hasn't worked as an approach in a long time.

It will be one more 'campy' movie that simply sucks. 'Nuff said.

When will Hollywood realize that the 'campy' movie are not what fans want. And they are generally not what the general public wants either.

If they used the original stars of the TV show, I could get behind this idea, but I guess we can forget any serious remakes if this is the approach they are taking.

CL, there was also one other good thing about the show was the Earth Defense Force blasters...Just my thought.

Can only hope that this is a late April Fool's joke, but even then it's poor material...

But whenever it's made SFM will fall all over itself praising it as "Awesome!", all over again.

Sometimes the worst opponent is the one closest, yet ignorant of the truth.
