It's a brazier- they set them out during strikes so the picketing workers can keep warm.

If you're looking for refs, just get a bog-standard oil-drum, punch some holes in it (make them rough, as if done in a hurry with tools at hand) and chuck a really scorched and charred texture on there.

Here comes the water, It comes to wash away the sins of you and I.
This time you see- like holy water, it only burns you faster than you'll ever dry.

Braziers go back way into the middle ages - they were used in general to hold burning coals - for anything from heat sources to coals for torture.

The essential part is that mostly you need to have a containerwith holes in it to draw air. If you don't have the holes, it either does not produce any heat, or just goes out.

No question is a stupid question if you don't know the answer - If you need help (and you can find us), ask the (Sens)A-Team.

hm, brazier does ot really have the same meaning for Germany. There the word would mean Kohlenpfanne: "coal pan"......
Not really matching what they are usually doing on street...

See the Shadows of Darkness, Hear the Scream of Cruelty...

That's why I've became a Warrior of Heart, Defend the one you like, Guard the one you love...

The barrels look like that in modern days as opposed to the old concept of the brazier because of what they are burning - namely, any old rubbish that they can get their hands on

while "brazier" may be an accurate term, no one calls them that. no one calls them anything in particular. just a barrel with trash inside that's set on fire.

Brazier would be the correct terminology for what it basically is, no idea if they have a specific name?

folk used to get a pick axe, use spike end, punch diamond-shaped holes in the bottom of a 40 gallon oil barrel....and there you go, a brazier
