| Stupid People Syndrome STUPID PEOPLE SYNDROME is what I call paying $5700 for a gaming rig! Let me explain My best friend who got back from IRAQ just paid $5700 and change for a Alien where gaming system it has all the bells a whistle you can imagine including 3 yes I said 3 BFG GTX2 ($1900 right there) video cards! ![]() Now heres the thing he's tried 3 games with this Brand new system and only ASSASSINS CREED (GREAT GAME) uses 2 (benched at 17% of card capacity) of them the other one get turn off automatically. Most games including call of duty turns off 2 cards and only uses 1 of them because GTX2 already SLI percard! Whats more there will never be in the life of this rig (5-7 yrs.) that will use all 3 cards to max. ability! It get worst when he found out with a little research by your truly the XFX Geforce 9600gt 512mb XT edition running SLI out performed his BFG GTX 2 buy 14% on the bench mark and they were not using more then 40% of there total Bandwidth ability's! As I said stupid People Syndrome! Anyone other then me think he waisted his money? Anyone out there know any other STUPID PEOPLE SYNDROME STORY'S? |

| Official Aceminion | People think throwing money at something makes it automatically a good thing. But really, being smart and planning for the long term is the best way to go. I just ordered parts for a dual quad xeon system. I was sure not to skimp on the motherboard, the psu, the base components, however I only got 2Ghz Xeon's instead of the fastest (i believe 2.6Ghz), also only eight gigs of ram (the capacity is 32Gb of Ram). The logic here is that in two years I can get faster Xeon's, which will be cheaper by then, as well as add more Ram. I'll only have to pay for half of a computer instead of upgrading the whole thing. Spending $5700 without doing research is definitely, uh, stupid. |

| Administrator | I dunno if I'd be so quick to judge. We all have differering ideas of what something's worth. If he's got the money and he's happy with it, then who are we to judge? |

| The Nerd next door | for that ammount of money I could get me a car and not worry about making some payments on it much. That is what I would do with the money. |

| My chinese friend bought a Xin-Shu R-88 Abacus with pearl beads and ultra smooth carbon fiber rods for faster processing for 1000 bucks. Thing is his friend has a an old one made from plastic and it out equals and sometimes out performs his ultra R-88 system. Know why? Becuase my friend with the cheaper abacus can move his beads just as fast, if not faster than his friend. Silly friend. /The more you know. |

| Nano: you have a wonderful POINT of VIEW, and I can accept it if it was just that! ( I guess thats why your an administrator) But this guy wanted the BEST everything even when I showed him research! $5700 is not small change. 3 of those GTX 9800 /2 are the equivalent of 6 GPU cores god what a waist! When all he really needed was 1! |

| Administrator | Well I see what you're saying if he clearly had better options in front of him. But I'm curious what he'd say. I can tell you I personally have paid more than I should have in the past for reasons that aren't readily apparent. I'll give you an example: I bought processor at Fry's. When I got home, I found out that the processor they gave me was wrong. It was actually a bit slower than what I had paid for. I opened the processor, installed it, still using it to this day. I'm a big idiot, right? Most would think so. Heck, presented with that info, I'd say it, too. But... there's more to the story. I bought the computer on a Saturday. Sunday was a holiday, the store was closed. Monday I had some freelance stuff to start. I needed time to install the OS, get my software going, and be ready for work to start. Had I put my foot down and gotten them to fix the processor problem, I wouldn't have been able to start on Monday. I would have lost more than the $20 difference in price. Back on topic, in your friends' case, maybe he was being unwise or maybe he had a good reason. I'm curious what he'd have to say. Heck, I've seen people motivated to do things like that because of the tax write-off. That was actually a motivator for me to get a MacBook Pro not too long ago. |
