Anyone seen the Brains dancing advert?

That has to be CGI, no way you can get a puppet to do that, brilliant idea though, use CGI to make something thats supposed to look fake, but it looks realer than most things they try to make look real.

Ironic when the original tried so hard to hide the strings, this new version has the strings added on purpose.

link?

2d art is treated as a bastard child in 3D forums.

Not sure its string puppetry, but also not sure its CGI either. Maybe some stop motion in there.

There are however, some extremely gifted string-puppeters - that commercial is not beyond them, by any stretch of the imagination.

No question is a stupid question if you don't know the answer - If you need help (and you can find us), ask the (Sens)A-Team.

It is cgi, and obviously very well done. Quite amusing too, I have to say. And thats rare coming from me, as far as almost ANY commercial goes.

there's cg in there near the end definately, you can tell by looking at the legs deforming when you see it on TV, but it does look good

I pity the fool!

I enjoy the advert a lot, though as the are two Thunderbirds ads on at the moment, for different products. It can be confusing what they are advertising. One is Spectsaver, (Brian would be better for this one.) and the other is for bottled water.

Probably the same advertising company - sometimes ad execs are short on imagination.

Actually, after some research...its a mixture of both CGI and puppettering, using samples taken from dancers. The making-of video is not long enough to see how much of each is in there, but some that's you'd expect to be of one type is the other and vice-versa.

The making of video does not actually say much all all really, and nothing that we've all seen before, but you can get it here. Expect a long wait however - took ages for it to download for me, and kept giving the impression that the page was failing.

No question is a stupid question if you don't know the answer - If you need help (and you can find us), ask the (Sens)A-Team.
