| Still Alive | Ubuntu question hey folks! a couple weeks ago I downloaded Hardy Heron, and burned it to disk yadda yadda, and I installed it inside Windows with Wubi just fine, and all is well . . . I used it for a bit, and liked it a lot, but haven't booted it up for about two weeks, and I went to boot into ubuntu last night, but instead of going to the login screen it just ended up at a terminal screen . . . 'help' wasn't much help as I don't know what all those commands do ![]() how do I get ubuntu to boot up to the login screen? |

| Ubuntu question Are you using the Wubi install of Ubuntu (in a Windows directory)? I installed Ubuntu, via Wubi and I have also experienced that problem on occasion. I have found if I restart my PC, bring it up under Wndows (in my case, XP) and then log-off, restarting the PC (Restart) and then selecting Ubuntu on the restart fixes this problem. I use Wubi on my desktop and one lap-top and a straight install of Ubuntu on another laptop. I have not experienced the problem on the lap-top with the straight install - only under Wubi and on my desktop unit. If it is a straight install, then you probably had an installation error and may have to re-install. I know tis may not be all that helpful, but you never know. I would also suggest that you join the Ubuntu Forums, where you have a much wider audience for Ubuntu questions. Just google "ubuntu" and "forums". Good luck. |
