Truespace trueSpace 7.6 now FREE

3D Modeling Software - trueSpace

Quote:
Today is an important day in the 23 year history of trueSpace. We are releasing a major upgrade to our flagship product with trueSpace7.6, bringing significant improvements in modeling, animation, rendering and workflows, plus new direct export to Virtual Earth. Most of these you might already expect if you've been following my regular Captain's Blog posts at Captain's Blog - trueSpace Community Forums.

What you may not expect is that we are making trueSpace7.6 available to everyone at no charge, in a giant step forward to bring high-end 3D authoring tools to all who want them! To accompany that, we are also making all our video courses available to all, also at no charge.

on the one hand this is great for those who can't or won't pay full price, but on the other hand it's a kick in the pants for those of us who payed full price for the previous release

if only I had waited

the video tutorials are also free now, they used to be like 80 bucks

I think this is a result of their acquisition by microsoft, since one of their highlighted new features is exporting in X format for use in the XNA engine among other things, and a degree of integration with Virtual Earth

It's amazing the difference having a decent rendering engine makes! Looks like TS is finally a fully viable option for production art work. Add in that it's free and this should be very, very appealing

I think I must be going blind, the only thing I see is a Trial download for 7.5

Aye - I could easily have done with 6.6 up until now. Fortunately, I have never paid full price for any version.
I've always waited for the holiday special upgrade offers Even my first tS version (4.3) was on discount.

This comes in a awkward time for me - I just recently began evaluating what I'll switch over to (XSI, Maya, MAX or Lightwave)

My first copy of TS was free as they were trying to convince me to convert from 3D Studio r3 and do some promotional work for them instead. I couldn't stand the interface back then though, so I politely declined

I always thought the TrueSpace interface was the easiest to comprehend. Point and click to render. Hard to beat that.

Well, except there's more to a 3d app than just rendering. You may as well say Max is easy as you just press F9... The early versions of TS weren't so easy to model in unless you just wanted to do basics, which is where my comment came from!
