There are loads of tutorials out there on how to do 3d stuff. Learn the basics of your applications first, then start refering to tutorials that are closer to what you are trying to achieve. Once you are creating models, post them here in the 3d WIP forum and you should get feedback and advice on how to improve the model. If you are completely stuck then there is the 3D Q&A section here where you can ask specific questions about modeling, texturing and so on

Andrew, I think your post was intended for the other thread?

lol how does a 15 year old afford 3dsmax & photoshop at retail lol, it depends what you want to make, also games require low poly models usually. If you just use the tutorials and quick start guide that come with 3dsmax you will learn a lot!

Student/school discount or rich parents? People always assume the worst...

There are thousands of Max tutorials online. There are even some in the tutorial forums here

if you're overwhelmed, start by learning the controls. don't try to model anything in particular, just find out how to make an object and then figure out how to change it's shape, what tools do what, etc.

also, there are loads of tutorials here in the member tutorial section. Max takes awhile to learn and I assume so is blender but I have never used it before. There is a great tutorial on making planets in the member tutorial section.
