Hello people in my head

Hello to one and all. I have been guilty of lurking for a few weeks, so whilst my poor machine renders away, and late night poker plays away on the TV (4 am, good god!) I thought it was time to introduce myself.

I am, and always have been, a sci fi luuuvuuur. From Flash Gordon (which i saw at the cinema which makes me a bit crusty) I have always loved the realisations of the future; technology, machinery, flying bird men (Brian Blessed in S&M gear, what an image), laser guns (gunz, gunz, GUNZ) and space ships; i love it all. Apart from the films that show that the futures bad. Cos the futures orange, according to the adverts. Apparently.

Influences? from the movie world: Star Wars (duh), Alien & Aliens (not so much the sequels like Ressurection), Blade Runner, I Robot, Minority Report, The Last Starfighter, The Black Hole (showing my age here), The Adventurers, Star Trek (in all its incarnations), Matrix (for its conceptual realisations, i've always thought the films were a bit derivative) and others that i've forgotton at this late hour.
TV? Star Trek, Stargate, Lex, Sliders (hahaha), 1999, Farscape (bit poo but I liked it).
Comics? Usually Japanese; Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira, one of the best Manga ever, comics and film), Masamune Shirow( Appleseed (LOVE Appleseed) Dominion Tank Police), Wicked City, Orutsokidogi (Legend of the Overfied) etc....
Artists? Apart from the usual there is one that I think everyone should check out, Simon Bisley. A Legend in my circles. Check out "Slaine; The Horned God" for just unbelievable amazingness.

Theres so much more I could mention here but I shall stop before I start zoning out in nostalgic (vodka fuelled) hyperbole.

Weapon of choice is Maya. I started in Milkshape, doing personal mods of the game Freelancer, before moving onto Maya thanks to both my brother and friend who work in film camera work and post production. Been using Maya for 3 years now. Took a break for a year where i learnt Photoshop and Illustrator but got my poor rig back up and running (Athlon xp2000 *sob*) and now im back with my baby (Maya) which seems to be more of a life than a programme. I've been drawing 'stuff' for 27 years now so I'm quite accomplished but not published, and would love to get my 'break' at some point cos I think I'm good but I know that I still have a lot to learn. Have always been creative but this stuff really gets the old juices flowing so I hope you'll all check out my stuff. Crit it and love it (cos i need it, like every insecure artist :P) cos I'll be giving it back in spades.

Am so impressed with the quality of images I see here so I hope you'll accept me with open nacells and inertial dampers.
