| I believe I've found heaven...nobody told me it was called Scifi-meshes :P I stumbled across scifi-meshes from a link page from another 3D community, which I found through tutorials for 3DS on YouTube. And I was looking for tutorials because I just started my journey into the world of 3D. My personal goals are to learn to model 3D models to such levels that I've seen here on the forums. I am especially impressed with 1of33's work on the Battlestar Titan I belive it was, a close to 10 million poly model that honestly looks no different (if not better) than the actual model used on the show! lol. Oh, I guess this would be a good time to mention that I'm a complete and utter Battlestar Galactica fan. If you can belive it, BSG has surpassed Star Wars and Star Trek in my book....and that's saying a lot since I'm a huge SW and ST nut too. Anyways...once I figure out how to do things, expect to see yet more BSG models :P Dont worry I'll try some custom stuff too ![]() You know, call me a dreamer, but my ultimate goal is to produce something akin to the actual BSG show space scenes. My aim to to focus specifically on space environment, space craft, and all that and start very very simple, but get that simple stuff right. My goal is to re-create BSG battles and make virtual movies Perhaps associated with some fan fic. Oh, and I'm a big fan of the BSG gaming, specifically the Freespace 2 Source Code Project devoted to BSG, called Beyond the Red Line. I'm founder of the multi-player hub for flying Vipers and Toasters ![]() My personal backgroud is in aerospace engineering, and I've done some basic CAD work, but mostly it's programming and analysis for solving equations so the little CAD that I did really doesnt help me much with this 3D modeling and animation stuff. Either way, I think this is the best site I've seen so far, and I hope that i'll be able to learn how to model and animate here. I'd appreciate any help to get me started and point me to the right tutorials etc. Any tutorials on how to make a BSG ship (a Viper or Battlestar say ) and basic Sun/Planet/Starfield/Lighting/Animation tutorials?I've browsed through the tutorial section, and it seemed pretty limited at first glance. But I'll have another look. Sorry for the lenght of the post...i congratulate you if you are still awake ![]() Adalla |

| Moderator With Rocks In | Welcome to the site ![]() I use 3D CAD every day at work, and to be honest it isn't of much use when it comes to preparing you for polygonal modelling. With CAD you have no need to worry about poly flow, modelling for animation is often all about it. I take it you'll be using MAX? If that's right, then you won't have too much trouble getting help while you learn here Starting small is absolutely the right idea though - put aside those dreams of animated battle scenes for the time being, work through a few tutorials and then start trying things that will challenge you, but not completely confound you |

| Thanx for the welcome m8. And yes I'll be using Max, and starting small and simple, but hopefully start with high quality stuff. I'd rather have something that is high quality but simple than big and complex but fake-looking (I see a LOT of bad animations out there...) |
