Yes.

Here are some models that I did for "Andromeda" in Max, then converted to Lightwave and textured there too.

Andromeda sure had some crazy ship designs! They are cool too. When you converted the meshes did they have to tris or quads...

Crazy, yes! But never boring. There was a definite drive to make Andromeda (the ship) not resemble anything on the air. And that's why the Vedran ships are so fluid. They were supposed to have perfected their tech to the level of art, so there were to be no straight lines. This proved quite challenging.

I noticed early on a number of tricks to ensure the most accurate translation. Usually that had to do with grossly oversizing the model, then converting to tris, then rescaling in Modeller. It was kinda clunky, but it worked.

Yeah, I know. After the firing of the Robert Wolfe (the guy who reworked Gene Roddenberry's original concept), the stories just kinda went for the lowest common denominator. As for the ships, I just tried to keep the designs as interesting as possible.

Its nice to see that someones worked in 3d for a long time and is still so enthusiastic about it. seems like an unusual workflow to model in max and texture in lw, do you find texturing easier in lw or is it simply easier to convert before texturing?

Welcome to the boards.

Wow, someone in that works in the industry that actually loves max and uses it. Even if you have to convert it to LW it's still nice to know that it can be used to do this type of work. Maybe you would be willing to give us a little more conversion pointers.
