A favorite saying of a former boss was, "Is it done yet?" This was quoted at any point, and I mean, ANY point in the creation process. You want to create the best representation of your talent but most often that's just not what they want. The harsh reality is that the entertainment business is just that, a business. 'Art' will be tolerated only if you can sneak it in before the deadline. That's where true craftsmenship lies. Gaaad, was that bitter? ![]() |

I was never too pleased with how the Balance of Judgment turned out. Those were the days when I would simply come up with concept art and send it out to be realized. Unfortunately, sometimes that process encountered mind-numbing glitches. I said, "It's basically a glorified missile launching platform." They interpreted that as "Covered from head to toe in missile tubes." Oh well, live and learn. But as for the Slipfighters, those ships were overhauled as we went into 4th season and I think they turned out nicely. I was always bothered in the beginning that they had no markings of any kind. So aside from tuning up the geometry, we gave them a fresh coat of paint and identifiable markings. And yet with the improvements, came more notes from production. In third season, we had an episode where Dylan, Tyr and Beka had to fly slipfighters into enemy territory to blow up an installation. Fearing that the audience wouldn't be able to tell who's ship was who's, they decided that a great idea would be to emblazon the CG wings with glowing neon stripes, colored to represent the pilot ! That would really amp up their stealth capabilities! So when management changed hands in fourth season, we nixed that.Anyway, have a look at the new & improved slipfighter. Also of note, was the considerable amount of work that went into refurbishing the slipfighter launch bay (yes, slightly reminiscent of BG, but hey! Inspiration is inspiration!) by Michael Blackbourn and Michael Lowes and the results are great. Cheers |
