| people...it's a joke. imagne you write something incredible and you don't know it...you sell them your peice for 400$...and it becomes a MAJOR HIT..you're ****ed. that"s the reason they are doing this. |
| When you love a pet, loosing it is like loosing a part of your soul. I lost part of mine on Feb 12 2008. Never will it be the same again. | |

| SFM Obsessed | And that's why I'm asking!!! Bloody hell, people, where are the guys (whoever!) that buy at professional rates?! Just tell me! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!1!!... Ok, I'm done. While the rates are reasonable sounding, you fine gentlemen of professional stature have convinced me otherwise. If the location of the higher paying magazines can be provided then I would greatly appreciate it. |

| Actually I was talking about the illustrations they will consider paying for rather than the stories, but in this game the rates are low virtually everywhere both for artwork and text unless you're an established industry pro and even then life can be very hard unless you're the best of the best. There is a very good article on the site about why this is. Here it is: Don't Quit Your Day Job - The financial reality of writing science fiction and fantasy by Carol Pinchefsky - Intergalactic Medicine Show I loved this bit of the article: Some tips for SF/F writers to stay afloat while writing: - Sell books online, autographed, of course - Teach writing - Write part-time in the lucrative field of business or tech writing - Ebay - Try the ultra-hot field of science fiction journalism (just kidding) - Marry rich - Have wealthy relatives, and kill them (still kidding -- this is advice for mystery writers) I hear what Al says about giving away your rights for a measily US$400, but I think on this particular site they just get first publishing rights after which you can sell your story elsewhere (I think, you will need to read the terms carefully to check this). Then again...when was the last time you heard of a SF short story selling for millions and millions? Ravs |
