Newcastle Quayside- Millenium Bridge

Just a couple from a batch I managed to snag yesterday on a trip to the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art- I took the camera along not really expecting many opportunities, but as we got to the Quayside the weather began to clear and conditions improved greatly.

This week I've been testing out a new lens I got just before my trip to the Lakes, these pics have been taken with that, and I'm fairly happy with the results.

Note: There has been a bit of post-processing done, as I shoot in RAW, which has a tendency to under-expose ever so slightly on the 350D. I've tried to keep it minimal though, just bringing the colours and contrast out a little bit. I'd have loved a hood and polariser, but they're not here yet.

Nice photos Samurai! Did you manage to get any of the Bridge in the 'open' position or lit up at night?

I have to admit that, for me personally, there's nothing better than popping down to the Quayside on a sunny afternoon and taking a walk over the Millennium Bridge to get some fresh air, followed by a nice cold pint at P&P.

No, I don't think the River tours run on a saturday, so the bridge stays closed, and we weren't around long enough for it to get dark.

I'll probably wait for autumn/winter before trying any night shots down there- there's enough ambient light as it is these days without the last dregs of a summer day.

As for P&P- it's alright, nice terrace- limited selection of beers when I was last in, but that was some time ago.

Shame, but yeah waiting for winter is a good idea with those early dark nights. You can get some fantastic shots of the bridge, especially when it's open and/or lit, from the outside viewing area at the Baltic on one of the upper floors.

Yeah, I have a couple from saturday from the 4th floor observation box- bit trial and error though, gotta hold the camera above the glass walls, otherwise you get the marks on the glass- fortunately digital lets me see those straight away. I'll get whatever has come out from up there posted as soon as I get back on the main PC as thats where I've got Lightroom installed right now, and I rather like its workflow.

I take it you're a Newcastle lad as well then enigmaxs? Always a good thing, as it's impossible to have too many geordies in one place!
