| This time you see | Good camera?! Bah! It's all to do with the eyes of the person taking the shots. While a decent camera can help, there's certainly nothing to stop those willing to learn and persevere from attaining excellent results from a basic compact. ![]() Chris: I'll let you know once I've had it out and about- hopefully the weekend, weather and circumstances permitting. First impressions are great though- it's not super-light, but its the next best thing to the Carbon tripods out there, and the head is brilliant. It's all very well screwed together too, and the swivel stalk is very well designed- could be a killer feature that, especially for Macro work. ![]() |

| You hassle, you die. | Sounds good, looking forward to hearing more. I wouldn't mind a "macro-usable" tripod. Concerning the camera. I agree. I've seen simply amazing pictures by people who own "only" an old Eos 300D + Kit Lens. For most types of fotography it's true that the photographer does the picutres, not the camera. Some types of photography can't do without a minimum of equipment though. And some need a lot. Bird photography is one of these types, without at least 400mm (and that reasonably fast) you shouldn't even try to start... which is a bit frustrating because the really long lenses are so ridiculously expensive. Then again, if you just want to take pictures of birds, Digiscoping is the way to go, really ... |

| This time you see | Well, minimum height (checked with a canon 350D, so a teeny bit smaller than your D80) from the ground is about 11cm, and it's got the quick release leg-tops which help when it comes to quickly adjusting your height. The centre column feature works really well too- quick and no less stable than when it's fully upright. My only criticism really is the fact that the tripod takes up a lot of room when it's in it's "low" position- I found the Manfrotto Modo was as stable at the low heights, and took up less room because it had the screw-off centre column, only it doesn't support the longer lenses well enough..... ![]() The tripod dilemma is going to be full of compromises I think. Ideally I suppose you'd have both- the 190XPRO for field work, and the Modo for staged Macro work.... ![]() |
