What is that you're using to smoth the surface, bondo? How difficult is it working with the 3d printed resin?

Cool thread. Thanks for documenting your process. I keep thinking about how much fun it would be to airbrush that.

Nice progress. But shouldn´t the bussards be a separate transparent object with a smooth surface on the outer side and a rough one (like frosted glass) on the inner one?

Somebody blow something up, I'm in a really bad mood. Thanks in advance.

What you're seeing is just the master pattern which will be molded and cast. The finished piece will be clear.

@Bar: No need to overdo the sugar coating. By now Rich should know that he´s achieved a level many are aiming for but only a microscopic fraction will ever get near to.

@REL777: Thanks for the quick explanation. I was just curious because it seemed like light might shine through where the nacelle casing meets the bussards if it´s one object. Do you have special plans for that area? The part with the frosted glass came from the effect they used on the show whenever the nacelles were turned off (the bussards seemed like a thick layer of frosted glass (matte painting) and the grille turned semi-transparent with that thin, somewhat golden coating (1 & 2)).
