USS Reliant Here's another ship that was grown from a CG file that I'll be making into a kit. A friend of mine has a 3D printer and scanner and is able to basically print these out.

Wow that's cool, an awesome ship built in an awesome way! How does the printer support the things it prints, I mean you can't build a table by building it top to bottom without holding it in the air somehow, and turning it upside down doesn't really work either, does it?

Melak: I'd presume that the best way to go about it would be to save individual portions of the ship (saucer section, pod, nacelles, etc.) into separate files and process those through the 3D printer one by one. Then, after all the major parts have been fabricated, glue them together into a full ship. After that, it's a matter of applying paint and decals.

seeing all that "dust", i guess the printer is a kind of CNC-Mill. which would be probably much cheaper then the rapid prototyping 3D-printer. it really looks like al3d's reliant - if yes, you should probably credit him...

Nope it's not Al's, and I would never use someone's mesh without permission. I've been in this business long enough to know that. He made this mesh himself in Rhino.
