Shooting miniatures for Supernova

Here are a few pics of the miniatures from Supernova. I supervised the construction of all the shooting miniatures for the film. The film itself was a big disappointment but I felt the design of the ship and the miniatures we built were some of the best on film. Its too bad they were overlooked but thats hollywood.

Enjoy.

Whoa... these are AWESOME!! Thanks for sharing!

I agree, the movie was... well I'll just leave it at that. And yes, for the record, I did buy it on DVD. I liked the ships and some of the concepts (except for the ending and the rock thingy).

I've been looking for some good references for these, the Nightingale in particular. Mainly dimensions and a true side ortho.

Take me out to the black,
Tell 'em I ain't comin' back.

I dont have any over all drawings but the miniature was 1:24th scale and measured about 20 feet in length. I posted some side views of it on my blog.

Excellent work, it looks all scratch built too, I cant see any obvious kit parts in there.

It was built using a combination of laser cutting, water jet cutting and hand fabrication. 99% of it was custom fabricated with the use of some modified kit parts on the main bridge section but you wont recognize them because they were changed a lot.

That is phenomenal work. Just breathtaking. I haven't seen the movie, but I might check it out just to see the miniature work. I love CG, but I also miss miniatures being used for starships in movies. Hopefully one day someone will use a miniature starship again, but I doubt it.
