BSG: Tannhauser Gate

Hello, I'm looking for people that are willing to help make two small fan project that I'm starting soon. I lack extensive expertise in modeling and compositing ship explosions in cinematic battle. I'm pretty much a writer and creative mind that just thinks stuff up by listening to musical tracks. The hard part is getting it all on paper and visually. I am going to do most of the audio work and editing and any live action shots that are needed. At most I need a two and a half minutes of ship battles. If I get help, I might expand it into a short film if enough people are like "Wow! Give us More!" I'm currently downloading Pegasus and Galactica models to play around with to give a short demo.

Scenes I have currently written out/brainstormed for a fanfilm are as followed:

-A look at the original Cylon War. Seeing the original Cylon ground forces fighting colonials. The original Battlestars fighting the Cylons.

-Life on a Battlestar prior to the attack. Inspiration comes from playing games like Elite, Starlancer, Freelancer, or any space sim. The stories here would involve real actors. This would be something that I would contribute with and hope other people would help pick up on.

-Alternate Beginning to the Series. The Cylon Attack from a different perspective. A first hand account of the tragedy that befell the Twelve Colonies and the destruction of Picon Fleet Headquarters. I thought about going as far as showing Battlestars show up after Galactica escapes Ragnar Anchorage to give a sense that a second fleet lurks out there and that the Cylons are dealing with that threat in secrecy and leaving.

-The fleet would contain original, Mercury, and Valkyrie class Battlestars and even new classes if called for. The fan made series would focus on more military conflicts rather than civilian ones. The episode "Pegasus" would serve as a template for the series. The five Battlestars would be named the "Adria", "Ithica", "Io", "Aether", and "Perseus". The Perseus would be the main Battlestar under the helm of Admiral Nathan Baird.

-Tannhauser Gate is a highlighted Battle between humans and Cylons. This would be the final battle on the road towards Earth for the secondary fleet I created. I would make this a tragedy so it would fit into the Galactica storyline universe as the fleet that "tried and failed". I am going to leave it open that one Battlestar may have survived.


Something a little less ambitious would be a fun little demonstration movie teaser I had thought out that incorporates both original Stu Phillips music and Bear McCreary's music from the new series. It's more of a "what if" they made a film for the final stretch to Earth. This would probably be something I wouldn't need a lot of help on and used to brainstorm ideas.

The teaser would consist roughly of an orchestrated montage of the new series actors in more touching moments with Stu Phillips music, then picking up into action sequences with McCreary's tunes.

This teaser would rely more on digital effects, editing, and a soundtrack, versus needed actors and clips from the show.



Such sequences I would require for this would be

-A shot of Galactica nose diving towards Earth in pursuit of a falling Baseship.

-A shot of Raptors and Vipers diving into Battle of Tannhauser Gate (This depiction of the battle would be the final stretch to Earth) with multiple Battlestars and Baseships fighting it out above Earth.

-Shot of the central CIC table with pencils and the words "Tannhauser Gate". Camera will zoom in and shake around at the words.

-Re-Editing of certain clips from the series for background dialogs for scenes.

-Stuff that implies that a lot of time has gone by between the end of the third season and this teaser

-Any off the wall ideas that are thrown around.

I'm suprised no one has responded to this yet, It sounds interesting to me. I'm in if you still want to try something, at the very least there could be some cool scenes to be made.

well i can only realy be encouragement to keep the idea alive seeings that i can do almost nothing in blender. Sounds really cool .. Infinity you should recruit people haha

Kind of played around with my Valk model, turned it into Battlestar Ithica. I also did a short little mock scene similar to one of the ones from "Hero." I'll see if I can post it later

Of course this is a quick one hour job, If this we're to happen I would go back and redetail her with a high res texture.
