Exclamation Fringespace: A Total Conversion of Tachyon: The Fringe

Project name: Fringespace

Brief description:

This project is, in a nutshell, a mod which attempts to recreate and enhance the gameplay style of Novalogic's Tachyon: The Fringe within the open-source Freespace2_SCP engine.

Every ship will be recreated from the originals with a modern feel and complexity, while every attempt will be made to retain the unique characteristics, in the visual and gameplay aspects, which made Tachyon a superlative space combat experience.

We've been in production since 10/06, with several playable* internal demos produced thus far. (Links for video below)

(We were using the original models, at first, in all demo shots and videos on the site. They are, and will be, replaced by much higher-quality media.)

Target aim:

Freeware.

Compensation:

Volunteer-only, non-profit.

Talent needed:

ART:

- 3D Modeler:
Position requires the team member to construct updated, detailed replicas of ships, bases, weapons, and other assets.

- Texture Artist:*
Position requires the team member to UVMap and texture 3d media.

- 2d Artist:
Position requires the team member to create interfaces, effects, and other art per engine specifications, in concert with the team's programmers.

Randall "JGZinv" Cassitor - Project Co-lead, 3D Artist, 2D Artist

We are very much still in production, and would welcome anyone from a neophyte to a veteran, as far as skill level goes. We have a lot of models to do, and many hands makes light work, as the saying goes. This is a labor of love for us, but we'd welcome the help - whether it's for a portfolio, or for the chance to play a game _you_ helped make. Hope to hear from you soon!

You seem to be looking for the same things you were a year ago.

Numpties, everywhere. 'Can you do this for nothing', it's all you ever hear from them!

Nope.

First, it was for repair of the original meshes, 11 months ago, and in a different forum. We've chosen not to take that tack, and are redoing the models entirely.

Second, I've done 8 models myself, in the last 6 months, and carl finished one last month. We aren't asking for anything we're not willing to do ourselves. I started modeling 6 months ago, with no prior experience, specifically because I couldn't find anyone else at the time. I have found a couple, since then - but I've done the majority of it, and probably will do the majority of it. I realize that, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Third - game, even mod, development takes a long time. Beyond the Red Line has been going a lot longer than we have, Wing Commander Saga is in much the same boat. They both have teams much, much bigger than ours, too.

Fourth - This is a hobby project, not a paid professional project. They take longer, because they're usually done with less people, and with less experienced people.

Fifth - does that mean you're interested? Seriously, though - why post a one-liner which isn't accurate, doesn't link to the post in question, and shows that you haven't read the post? It says in the post how many models we have done, that we started using the original meshes but have since switched to redoing the models. We decided that in March. So it's been... 6 months? We have 9-10 models done, the same basic framework for the game that allowed videos in February is still there, just waiting for new models...

I don't get it, man. It isn't the same request, it's not the same game at all, by this point, and games _always_ need modelers. What's the beef?
