I reckon we can forget individual windows at this scale of skyscraper, well I suppose it depends on how tall you make your building of course.

It's up to the individual really. If someone wants to model all the windows on a 3km tall building then more power to their elbow... Of course, a 3km build would only really be possible with so small a base width if it was a round-walled building with a cone-like taper at the top, but as this is SF then there shouldn't really be any limits on what you can do, as long as it looks vaguely realistic/viable

Edit: Did some basic maths on this... The "slimmest" tall building in the world (The Spire in Chicago) will have a height to width ratio of 10:1. Its height is supposed to be 1,133 feet, which means a base of 34.5 meters. 3km is 3,000 meters, which means the base should be 300 meters on a 10:1 ratio, assuming that the stresses would be bearable for so high a building.

Might be worth increasing the base size to 300x300 instead?

Maybe the background story of this city could be that it is going to be build on a terra formed planet so that the layout can be preplanned.

I can, if wanted make, a simple sketch of how I think it such a layout would look like.

If I may, I would suggest setting a grid unit size say 50x50. If someone wants to build a bigger building then they can increase that by the grid size units. So someone may build a 100x50 building or a 200x200 building. Or maybe someone could build a factory 900x900. It would allow for greater realism.

There is no story, and no layout, we set the pieces wherever we want them to be in our images.

But feel free to sketch if you want.

The 300x300 footstep for this building is quite generous, and like I said before, you don't have to go that wide if you want to make a smaller building, or you could put several in the block you are allotted.

At this time I think its best we stay with the measurements we have, if we want wider buildings later it would be easy to open the field out to other measurements.

Right now I am just trying to keep things simple, so we don't get bogged down in a never ending discussion of units and measurements.

At the moment its very, very simple, you have a box, 300x300x3000m, you put a building in that box, can be anything you want, but keep it under 100,000 polys.

You let other people in the project have your building and they let you have theirs.

That was the base size of the model I uploaded.

I guess I forgot it was meant to be 100x100, looks like my brain managed to work the proper measurements out by accident.

Ah, cool. I didn't check the model scale, only the text in your first post!

Uhhh, quick question.. What extension are you all using for the models? I can export out to 3DS... I work in C4D. (If you already answered this, then please forgive me..)

I would like to help make a building.. I have one in my head right now to design..
