Yea, I have one in mind on paper... Been designing it for the last couple hours.. Not sure how I want to do this.. I'm thinking of makeing a HOUSE. But i'm not sure I want to do that yet..

Also thanks for the info about 3DS. I can do that. But I have a question. HOW in the world do I EXPORT in C4D an OBJ file. Everyone seems to want OBJ files and I have no idea how to do it, or even WHY people want it. I can IMPORT an OBJ file in C4D but not EXPORT it unless i'm missing something. Got any ideas? OR is there a program that can use to convert my C4D OR 3DS file into an OBJ file? Maybe a plugin that i'm missing...

I'll anticipate your answer...

Like I said 3DS files will be fine.

Well, I can leave that up to you. Do you want a City where your in the suburbs and there are houses and in downtown there are skyscrapers? I can make a house small or large. It doesn't matter to me either way. I'm open. I just need a city like you all do. I want one with a lot of differences. Rural territory as well as downtown.

Well since a lot of us make spaceships, I kind of imagined we would mostly be using the tops of buildings.

When we have skyscrapers that can be up to 3km high, getting those and houses into the same shot at ground level could be tricky.

And in most cities, the skyscrapers arent next to houses anyway.

Ah, so this will be more or less a 5th Element environment where the top half of the building is the important visual with a hint of street level...

Ahh ok.. now I get it... Well then a house just won't do..

I'll work on a tall commercial building then. Probably do the upper half...

It still needs a ground floor, but if you have to detail one half more than the other, the top half is the way to go.

I had a thought on texturing, you are probably going to want to make a day and night version of the building, unless you are so good with texturing you can acheive both with one.

Also the texturing would probably be better as a custom map, rather than using procedurals, as procedurals might not transfer accross platforms as well, wheras a map can be used in most programs.

I've been scribbling a few concepts down at work in addition to the one I was working at, at home.

I think we should also use Melaks idea of one WIP thread for all our work, to save messing up the WIP forum with a bunch of different buildings, so whoever has the first one ready to show, feel free to start a thread for us all.

Good idea about starting the WIP thread.. Whomever starts it still needs to post it here with the link so that we all know where it is..

I try to use as less textures as possible. But I know what you mean about the day and night.. I'll see what I can come up with.
