And virtually all programs seem to have little problem importing OBJ format, it seems to keep it's texture & UV info intact, especially if you can export with an MTL file as well.

Third, and this is probably a stupid one, but I'd decide on a folder set up for the models/textures, just to make things easier for yourselves and other folk who might D/L it in the future, that way there's less chance of the usual error messages "Can't locate: C:\My texture folder\wall-texture1.jpg" for one block then getting a second one trying to find another on drive F:\

Good luck with this.

Cheers

Hey billy, thanks for the heads up... One thing though.. No one has answered my question.. You answered part of it as to why OBJ files are good and better then 3DS. BUT.. I am using Cinema 4D.. How in the world do I EXPORT out an OBJ file with it? Any ideas? I can import with it.. But i can't find a way to EXPORT with it. (I think that is stupid that it can do one and not the other.).

Also, I have space on my website that I would be willing to allow everyone to upload all the buildings / textures too. I'm getting it setup so that people can log in and upload their texture as well as download other's textures. But I need time to write the code. I already have a design look for my website for my online Star Trek show i'm trying to get going. It's all in PHP.

Thanks.

it's been mentioned before, but I definitely want to reiterate how useful Subversion would be for this project

tortoisesvn.tigris.org

if we set up a svn server we can all work on it without worrying about overwriting someone else's work, or other such inconveniences
it's a lifesaver

Unfortunately.. It doesn't support PHP... (Or at least I can't find any info on it on their site...) Good idea though...

Thanks mate, when artists like yourself give that kind of compliment it means a lot, especially when the whole team has been ripped to shreds by folk at DAZ about a Poser model 99% of them couldn't begin to start.

I suppose that was a bit nasty but F*** them, the only ones who do anything decent with them work or us anyway

Well here's a thought, even though I don't have much time to model stuff, working on the commercial stuff does take the fun and time out of it, maybe I can help out with the conversions, I've got a bit of experience now with converting to other formats, and if something doesn't work as you expect, drop me a line and I'll try and help out.

Cheers

Billy

Jimmy I'm not 100% certain about this, it might be like Adobe Illustrator, it might be a 'save as' and then you pick the format, but I was nearly certain C4D had an export to other formats, you just had to pick which one from the dropdown menu...since I only got C4D for the upgrade for Bodypaint through work I'm an amature, I'm basically a long time Lightwaver and too bloody old to change, I can't really help, but if you do want to know about C4D, pop over to Project Dalek, go to the virtual section and at the top there's a tute by Mick Imrie there, absolutely fantastic

Here's a link to the site

The Project Dalek Forum: Builders plans and support

you might have to register, but it's worth it just to get the links to Mick tutorials

Cheers

Jimmy I just checked, I made a mistake, it does do it straight from the File/Export menu, but it calls it Wavefront, which is the folk at Maxon expecting everyone to know it was originally Wavefront OBJ, since nobody really uses the Wavefront part any more is why you can't find it, (this is v10 BTW)

Cheers

Thats very generous, I would love to have you work with us, in any capacity.

Sorry to hear about your trouble with DAZ.

I found this picture from an atlantis episode, see the city looks quite complex, but stare at it enough, and you can see the individual towers are not that complex, and often repeated.

Thats the kind of thing we are looking for.
