Need Some Help Everyone...

Hey everybody, I'm Cameron Mitchell and I've started my own Sci-Fi screenplay for a movie. Unfortunately, I'm also a new writer, or, at least to the screenplay scene. But, I was wondering if anyone knew any tutorials I could find, FREE ones. I have a basic knowledge of screenplay writing, but I need a little helping nudge. Thanks everyone

My guess would be to get your hands on some scripts to existing films off of the internet and use that as a "template" example.

Reality is like a kick in the balls, you see something you like and WHAM.

Well, this may not be free, but maybe you can grab a secondhand issue of
J.M "Babylon5-Dad" Straczynski's "The Complete Book of Scriptwriting"
(Including the complete script from "The Coming Of Shadows" )
They sell it at Amazon for less than 1$ - so it's close to free

There is a free program called CeltX that should help you out in formating. If I remember, it also has some examples.

Don't know if its still around, but there is a program called Storyview, slightly more geared towards helping you develop your story structure etc. but it does have plenty of options that allow you to break down your story in many ways, so it could certainly be used to brainstorm or to 'rough out' a screenplay.

I downloaded a free version years ago that was a cut-down version of the paid for package. I found that more than adequate.

Plus it came with a cart-load of film screenplays (Star Wars IV-VI, The Shining, Babylon 5, many others) saved in the template style of the product so you could get a feel for how to use it for yourself.

Ah, what do you know - I just Googled it and it turns out there's a newer version than the one I used to use - you can get a free demo here Download StoryView 2.0 Free Trial - StoryView provides you the most powerful way to outline, plan, and present your ideas - Softpedia

Carry a notebook and pencil everywhere with you. Learn to listen to how people speak, what they say, how they say it and the context within which they say it. When you hear a bit of conversation that grabs you or see a situation that sucks you in write it down.

This will make reality your grounding point. This will make your work feel real to the readers and viewers.

This is what Seinfeld has done for years and see what its done for him?
