Vancouver here I come!

Members,

Thanks to your generous donations you have made it possible for me to fly to Vancouver Canada to attend the Scifi-Channel's Digital Press Tour. I personally can not thank everyone who's donated enough for the opportunity to represent scifi-meshes.com at this event and gather information about the shows, take photos, and interview the cast members. And I'm going to do my best to ensure that every detail is relayed back to you, both while on the trip and upon returning.

My ticket is purchased, and my hotel room booked. So I'm all set to make the trek Northwest (about 2344 miles according to the airline website) to Vancouver Canada on the 25th of this month.

Update on the Trip:
  • My contact at the Scifi-Channel has notified me that all Q&A sessions with the various talents (no listing available yet) from the shows will be recorded and provided to me unedited on a DVD at the end of the trip. I will make sure these sessions are compressed and made available to everyone upon my return from Vancouver.
  • While on the trip, a friend of mine has agreed to loan me his laptop computer. So it's confirmed that each night I will be able to post updates on what's happened during that day. I will be recording anything I can to ensure that my recounting of events is as detailed and accurate as possible. If I have good photos from that day, you can bet I'll get them online for you just as soon as I can.
  • A special forum is going to go live tomorrow (Monday) which will be where you can start posting YOUR questions for the casts or crew from the shows. Because I don't yet know WHO will be attending the event, I'll try and pull questions that will cover the show in general and then some specifically for certain cast members. Additionally, this area is also where you can go to read the log of the trip as it's happening and I'm able to get on the computer.
And finally, a very late breaking development: the Scifi-Channel has allowed me to bring two people along on this trip. They gave me very little notice of this. And because of this I found it next to impossible to extend an open invite to the masses and still have any hope of getting the logistics of the trip sorted out before the deadline.

Additionally, all of the donations I have received have been used to cover the costs of my trip.

Of those who did pose the question of attending, I have selected Rick Snider and Alain Rivard to take this trip with me. Both have agreed to cover their own expenses but this trip is not cheap. Hotel alone is 200.00 per night and the air fare alone is roughly 800-900 hundred dollars.

Some of you may ask why these two guys?

Well Hobbes was just in Vancouver and is in the know with regard to the city, and will be in fact be staying beyond this trip to search for a job at a company in the area. He knows all the cool places and how to get around the city.

Alain actually works for BattleStar Galactica as a freelance 3D modeler. He's made arrangements to get extended access to the show through his connections at the studio. This will get us into areas that will not be part of the Digital Press Tour!, and all of that will be relayed too you!

All this said, Alain would like to attend but has discovered that personal obligations have suddenly made financing this trip a little more then he can handle, and still be able to keep food on the table.

All of the donations I receive are for my trip. This is a completely separate fund raising attempt.

Alain has asked if I could help him raise money through a donation drive for his trip. I have agreed to help. He is offering the following in return for donation given to him for this trip:

For those who help fund Alain's trip they will be granted access to several of his studio quality models that he's created. Access to the number of model will be granted based on the amount of the donation you are able to give.

The models he is offering access to are the following: (All models are in Lightwave AND 3D Studio Max format)
  • 4 Star Trek Shuttles
  • TMP Dry-Dock
  • USS Enterprise 1701 refit
  • USS Reliant
  • Battlestar Galactica Viper Mk II
  • Star Wars Millennium Falcon ($50.00 donation required)
Access to EACH model is granted per $15.00 donation. The Millennium Falcon requires a donation of $50.00 due to is complexity.

If you would like ALL of the models a donation of $100.00 will get you access to all six models.

If you make a donation to Alain please include which models you are requesting access too.

Donations should be made at the following email via PAYPAL: alainrivard@videotron.ca (To ensure clarity – these donations will help Alain finance his trip, and are completely separate from donations made to scifi-meshes.com or myself)

Time is of the essence as the trip is MONDAY the 25th of June. So please act now if you can and are inclined.

PLEASE NOTE: You are NOT purchasing these models. He is merely granting you access to them for educational purposes only. You are NOT granted permission to sell, redistribute, or use these models in a paid production.

All copyrights and trademarks are held by the respective owners - Paramount Studios, Universal Pictures, and Lucasfilms LLC. Scifi-Meshes.com is not held responsible for any of the above transactions.

Finally - To those of you who feel like I have in some manner slighted you because I did not openly offer a seat for this trip. I do apologize, but I felt it would be best to avoid having to pick someone, coordinate their trip with myself, and then hope everything works out. Alain and Rick presented strong cases for their participation and I feel I did the best I could under the circumstances. Again, my intention was not to slight anyone.

Should you have an issue with this decision please contact me via PM.

I'm not quite sure if this is the right place to ask, but in what max format are the models? .3ds or .max? And how good have they've been converted? Don't get me wrong, but some converted models turn out to be "buggy"...

You made a good choice choosing Rick and Alain, good luck with the fund raising! Once I have a new pay-pal account I'll be able to help out. I hope it works out for you al, it's a fantastic deal with the meshes and a good incentive to encourage people to donate. Though I'm doing not for the models I'm doing it to help a fellow member!

In LW or MAX? Can we get DXF? If so, I'll jump on that.
