That platform has always been there, but it looks like it was used to store excess equipment externally. Maybe the components they took from the Civ fleet.

Mmm, if a Viper flightsuit that has to serve as a spacesuit is that thin, perhaps that personnel on that platform was suited in a similar way. I hope the production guys had some rationale behind it. No cheating, people!

*feels a little guilty suddenly* So this isn't out yet?

I haven't been paying too much attention to the commercials to tell if it was on Sci Fi yet or not. And I just finished watching it on my computer.

I guess I wont remark on it if it's not actually.. out yet.

Most likely it is a mistake but striktly speaking it must be a new class of battlestars since it is bigger than Pegasus. Also if you look at the Valkyrie there are some things around its engine pods that were not present on the Valkyrie in "Hero".
or a bigger battlestar class

Most likely it is a mistake of the production crew. I am also posting some more pictures. Again be warned - this may be considered spoilers.
These are the two Valkyries and their strange engine pods:

However what picked my interest is this:

I didn`t know that Pegasus had such platform. And what is even stranger - there apear to be people on this platform. In the last picture they are runnig to get inside the ship (they are barely visible). So either there must be atmosphere on this platform or the people there wear some sort of protective suits. I would go for the second option however i do remember several times when colonial 1 landed inside Galactica`s flight pod and the crew welcomed the President there. So do the flightpods of the battlestars have atmosphere or not?
I suppose the other explination could be that there is a really big window there, and you are looking through the glass.

Those platforms were always on pegasus, they just weren't quite so... blue in the series, they were grey/white and always had crap on them which suggested they weren't so much airlock or landing decks as they were externally mounted machinery. I guess we know better now.

Current WIPS: None 'cause I'm a lazy bastard.

It seems those airlocks were also exploited by the cylon boarding parties, so perhaps they blocked them off intentionally after learning their lesson the first time...
