Update (24/Jun/2008):

Well we are now it wait mode.. we are unsure if we should start planning a rebuild, or if the city is going to buy out the neighborhood (they have already bought a couple homes)... Everything is up in the air..

However on Thursday myself and about 10 others in my company that were affected by the flood are having a lunch with the CEO of Paetec (where I work) and we are going to talk abaout what happened.. The company has been awesome in letting me work from home and take time off..

As well, thought you guys would find this amusing.. this is the levee that is supposed to keep the water away.. and DOES if it doesn't go above 22 feet

So now we are in hurry up and wait mode.. we'll let you know how things go as time progresses.. They are supposed to have a tentative decision this week about the city buyouts....

What does the city plan on doing with the land if they buy it from you guys?

If I'm correct, they will be turning it into a park..
They have plans on turning the old dump (Which is just off from where we live) into a Large Park with trails and such.. so they are thinking of expanding that..

There was actually talk before the flood of doing a buyout for the park.. but now they are thinking it might be the best thing to do.

We won't find out for a week or so.. If they do, and we can pay off the house.. I think we will take the offer.. buy a house on a hill away from the river.

Mini Update (26/Jun/2008):

Well FEMA has transfered some money into our bank account.. seems Fema actually came through for us, however my parents are appelaing thier decision.

Still waiting to get a building permit.. seems the city said they are easing some restrictions on building permits in some areas..

My parents have been able to get thier power restored and working.. they are going to hopefully move back in the next couple of days.

Actually no, but they got like 4 thousand.. so they are appealing.. Same with my sister.. I think she got 2 or 3.. not sure if she is going to appeal

why so low a number... From the pics you posted, thier house was pretty trashed.

Good luck on getting more than a couple of grand. That seems awful low for such damage.

Mini Update (28/Jun/2008)

Well we got quite a bit of work done last night, pulled out the old crappy lnaolium (sp) in the kitchen, down to wood floors again.. started to pull all or woodwork out.. why you ask.. well this is what the city told us when we called the building department

"Where do you live.. Okay.. that's outside the 100 year flood plain. This is what we advise. Clean up, get stuff taken out, but at this time we would advise not making plans to build."

Yes it's true the 100 year flood plane is about.. I duno 5 houses away from us.. but if they are going to remove all the 100 year flood houses.. I highly doubt they will leave half a city block when they start to doze.... so the news doesn't seem optimistic from the city.. but they said in a couple of weeks they should know more.

We'll see what happens.. in the meantime, I'm assuming we should start looking at new houses and get ready for a downpayment on a new house.
