Headers

May I ask who picks the headers? I have seen some very cool BSG ships in the 3D Sections and none had headers. At the same time I have seen some silly headers. I have an idea on this..

I think to be fair to everyone. I think that Mods and Admins should suggest heads, but the members should vote on them. Or have members suggests headers as well. It looks like scifi-mehes has a new header about every two weeks. It should be the right right amount of time to pick threads and vote.

Also what about a 3D Header and a 2D Header. Right now you have 5 headers maybe it could be setup for 6, so that every two weeks people can vote for a 2D and 3D Header.

Also to be fair to everyone.. If members can pick a thread for the header.. the member can't pick his or her own thread.

I think this can bring alittle more activity to the forum

It's an idea...

Us staff members (admins, mods, sensei) pick headers. We surf the forum and headerise stuff that we think all members should see and stuff that makes us go "that's awesome". It's all sort of depends on which staffers happen to surf by your thread. There are some loose guidelines, like 'don't header your own stuff (duh!)', 'only header impressive stuff', and 'no two headers from the same author at the same time', mostly to keep things diverse. Diversity is definitely an aim for the header, which is why I, personally, tend to avoid subjects that are already on display and look for something to balance things out. That doesn't mean that your trek/wars/bsg/sg/whatever won't get a header from me if it's good enough. I'm sure other staffers have their own systems for figuring out what to header.

And as far as BSG goes, 1of33 got a header, didn't he?

While I appreciate democracy as much as the next guy, I don't think a votable header would work from a logistics (they're handmade, you know ) point of view. Basically, worst case scenario, what we'd have is a bloated thread with a ridiculous amounts of links, personal agendas, unfair bias towards what's 'hip' right now and possibly sore 'losers'. The header's not supposed to be a contest, it's supposed to be a sort of a honour that you get if you do something out of the ordinary, which we think everyone should see.

If it makes anyone feel any better, I've never had a header, and I've been here pretty much since the beginning.

if you feel something deserves a header, by all means please suggest it to a staffer!
I've headered a couple things that people have PMed me suggesting they be headered

I agree with all of the above.

Sensei were only added to the list of people able to header worthy content recently. It was decided that, as the more artistically experienced and accomplished staffers, they are of course in a perfect position to judge what should be headered.

On the balance issue...I completely agree with Guerrilla. If we were to header every good BSG model being made out there, for example, we'd see little else on the headers and for every person wishing their was more BSG content on there, we'd get 5 bitching that there was too much...

I've actually noticed that there's been new headers put up more frequently recently. Must be because the sensei's can header stuff now

And if we did use a voting method all us SW fans would be disappointed cos all there would be is Trek stuff on the header

I know the headers are for the best of the best, or for the different.
But I would like to see stuff form Newbie’s to 3d or 2d, who have made improvement over say a six month period.
This would give them a boost in confidence, and also encourage them to improve their modelling skill even more, and give them the hope that one day they could be as good as the best modeller on the site like, MKF, Coolhead, Al3d, 4MM And Tallguy, just to name a few.

Or if they are 2d artist, the same level as Dark Saber, Ramiel, B.J, Tovette & JoeRalat, just to name a few of them.

Just an idea.

I understand what you're saying Freak...But I guess we have a different way of looking at the headers...

See, I look at the headers as the goal for all aspiring SFMers...I mean, you certainly don't have to strive to get a header, but the goal was to make it something 'elite' that only the best work could be rewarded. So that members hope to one day be good enough to 'make the header'...

It was just an idea, away of saying your doing well keep at it.
If you do decide to do it, you could always do it on the top of the 3d WIP and 2d WIP pages. So it not part of the main header.

Just something for you guys to think about.

No worries, if you do get a big head, I am sure some one will bring it back down to size.

Right now I have to get some more work done on my Original Freak Design If I am going to get it on the header.
