Downloads: 0 Uploads: 0 | I just had a mesh uploaded and approved (my USS Bonaventure). Someone complained about having problems with downloading it. I tried to download it and all I got was a 53 KB file (the file should be 3.13 MB). Any ideas on what the problem and solution might be? And, yes, I've got my login and cookies set for the Meshes section. I AM logged in. I just can't download my own mesh. |

| SFM Oracle | Oh man people need to search before posting stuff, this exact issue has been approched and answered many times in the last 5 months. 1 turn off all download acclerators use the default browsers dl tool. 2 log in 3 turn off any mallware or other add on scrips software etc. 4 make sure your permissions allow downloads from SFM 5 download then redownload the file (this is to be done if the first is obviously a partial dl) save over the first attempt. btw NS I managed to dl your mesh and am playing as I type. ![]() |

Downloads: 0 Uploads: 0 | I ran a search here for "download problem" and this was one of the top threads that came up. I saw that the starter of this thread was chastized for starting yet another thread on the topic... so I'm just gonna add to this one. I had the same problem that many others new to the site appear to be having... namely that most of the downloads will not download properly. The issues seem to come in two flavors: 1. Using a download manager app... the file downloads completely but the zip file can not be opened (fails the checksum) ...or... 2. Just using the built-in browser download procedure, only part of the file downloads. * It was suggested here to not use a DL manager program and to DL the file twice, overwriting the original (partial file) with the second attempt. That did not work for me. However, what did work was to "Open" the file instead of saving it. The file finally saved in its entirely and the zip archive opened without an issues. I'm not sure if I just got lucky or if that is a releiable solution for this issue. But for those who come after me, have the same problem, and the Search function brings them here... give this a try. * Note - I used IE7 running on Vista Ultimate. ** I run a SimCity Fansite (simpeg.com - shameless plug) dedicated largely to the custom development of custom materials for the game (structures, vehicles, etc)... developed using MAX & GMAX. The site (running SMF) also has a an Exchange/Download section not unlike this site... and I am aware of the host-related issues that can arise when running download scripts. Normally however, the download process merely times out as the host's server soils itself over how many resources the DL script is using... so I'm not sure if the issue here is related to restrictive hosting or not. If a solution can not be found, it might be a good idea to include a description of the "work-around" on the download pages. Great site, btw... I look forward to spending some time here!! |
