do you click on your username in a thread like above your avatar, or elsewhere such as the list of online users on the main page, the list of users viewing a certain forum index, or the list of users viewing a thread?

Suggest clear cookies cache and relogin and attempt. I clicked my nick everywhere here and not had a crash. As well make sure your ie isnt infested with any "extra" toolbars mallware and plugin rubbish. This is often the source for crashes.
