Pen and ink ships since I can't model

I thought some of you might appreciate these, it's been quite a while since I posted anything to this forum but these were sitting around my hard drive for quite a while and if anyone could get any use out of them, I figure you all would.

The first is my take on the Sulaco... I had heard Syd Mead wanted to do a round design which was vetoed... this is what I imagine it might have looked like.

I NEVER liked the look of Voyager... so I attempted to make a sleeker, more elegant shape for it.

A scavenger ship, cobbled together from parts of different vessels and held together by spit and chicken wire, rattling about at the edges of the universe.

My take on the Christopher-class starship from "Starfleet Year One" but giving it a different look... I like the front but I want to redo everything else.

I like the scavenger ship and the Christopher-class re-image the most.

Not bad at all Steve, not bad at all Now just detail it as much as possible from the drawing and add your own stuff and then animate!

Starrigger- Cool! This is what I like to see, artists helpin' each other out! I'll throw in some details on that picture (those curved pieces on the nose are roofs, portholes at the front: this thing is BIG, on a "Starship Troopers" level (but with Yamato-esque cannons on its' back)

Cavebear- Thanks! I'm still trying to figure out the nose of the ship, since it's where the occupants will be spending most of their time. It has to work with the A-Frame but there aren't really many triangular ships. I also just had this idea of it having metal bugs crawling about it to do repairs and patch up the welding that holds that hobbling mess together.

Okay, here's my take on the back of the Christopher, armed to the teeth. Strangely enough, the more I think about updating its' design, it's closer to the TNG Romulan warship than a Federation ship (ironically since I pictured these babies winning the Romulan War. Maybe they took a page out of our books).

Here's some other stuff while I'm here. I was reading the novelization of The Black Hole last summer (as I've never seen the movie, I wanted to see what was in my own head first) so this is my rough take on the Palomino. Not that happy with it.

    And some space shuttle variants.
The first is my tanked-up army version I envisioned for Ender's Game.

And a bullet train inspired shuttle. I can picture it being shot into space with a maglev rail system instead of booster rockets. I think it came out a liiiittle too phallic though.

Let me ask you all this: I listened to Rendezvous With Rama and I enjoyed it, but for all the detail they went into, I have NO idea what the Endeavour looks like. I've seen Rama art online but I've never seen anyone do that ship, does anyone have a clue what it's supposed to look like?

Well for starters I think your concepts for the Palomino are a lot more interesting then the one Disney came up with.

Its been so long since I read Rama, I can't remember much of it, I'll have to revisit.

They describe Rama to an insane degree with measurements, rotation times, the lag time for all their transmissions, the space chimps which play NO PART in the story whatsoever and not a single word about what their own spaceship is like. I keep thinking submarine from the 50s.

I like that 747 inspired shuttle. That's cool. The Voyager concept is nice. (though, the nacelles are still too small ) I used to hate the USS Voyager, but it's grown on me in recent years. The Christopher looks cool (nice name too ) but it doesn't look that Trek. I read that novel, but it was years ago.

(My name's Christopher too). I wasn't trying to go for Trek but just what came into my head, more like a sci-fi universe that decides to become the Star Trek universe (and since it's military at the start, I decided to go for a battleship-looking approach).

I need to put down what's in my head for the escort ship from Year One, in my mind it's a pod with just everything in it since the pilot doesn't come out for weeks, there's bike pedals for his feet, a kind of gerbil wheel track for him to run on, a mini kitchen, a bathroom with super-slim shower, everything's within arms' reach so he can go for the gun at a moment's notice.

Voyager still looks like a dustbuster to me, too fat and thick and thick-skinned. It doesn't emotionally touch me the way the other ships do.

The Palomino, the way I read envisioned it was like Alien, that 70s design with low clearance doors and weirdo paneling and packing pallet walls, while the Cygnus was more like an aircraft carrier turned into a W Hotel.

Nice to see so much of artists helping each other out here. I remember the first time another artist built an asset based on my concept art and it is such a buzz to see someone else's take on your design.

With the Christopher design Ihave to agree it doesn't look very Trek, but I do like the design though, to me it looks more like something from Starship Troopers or Stargate. Really nice first pass at it there by Starrigger too.
