Sony announces new 80GB PS3 for $400

Sony has just announced a new addition to the ever-changing Playstation 3 lineup: an 80GB model. The new 80GB Playstation 3 won't come bundled with any games, but it will come with the new, fancy DualShock 3 controller, which brings rumbling to the next-gen console. What isn't clear is how well it'll handle backwards compatibility — that is, playing Playstation 2 discs — as previous models haven't been too consistent in that regard.It's due to hit in September for $399. Undoubtedly, it'll be unceremoniously yanked from the shelves for another minutely updated version not too many months later. Hey, Sony knows what they're doing, right? Let's just trust them on this one.
