There were more, but I'm told they were deleted by an admin. They didn't bother to tell me why though.

err, do you think that your holiday / insect photos really belong in this gallery?
you can post stuff like that in our photography forum, and we would be more than pleased if you did, thats what its for. or there are plenty of other forums on the net for that kind of thing. This place is not a general photography gallery, again there are already lots of those on t'internet, and people come here pretty much exclusively to look at scifi.
Cheers.

I would have removed them after making backups, as a mod had given me a day to do so, but the pics were deleted without a word. I disagree that general photos shouldn't be allowed in here(since non-scifi 2D work such as self portraits and 3D renders of coke cans are allowed), but that's beside the point. It's plain rude to delete someone's work without having the courtesy to talk to them about it, particularly when the issue is already being delt with by a mod.

it isn't rude, the staff have the right to remove any images that do not meet the requirements. i'm sure you have even better copies of the photos on your machine, your camera, and hopefully backed up on disk, we are not a data backup or storage company, so you can't hold us accountable if you've now lost data (though as i said in my pm to you i find it hard to believe that your only copy of the photos were on sfm, nobody uploads an image then deletes all their own copies within a day or two)
It is a shame that there was a mixup, and the staff apologise for that but the images should not have been approved in the first place.
again, this is not a general photograpy forum, we do have a place on the main site where you can post that type of image, but we are keen to maintain the niche status of this area. we do have quite flexible rules on what you can post (which are currently under staff review) but just a plain photo of something which isn't even scifi related is definately not suitable for this area.
Thanks
