Meh...the perception gets F'ed up because the big ships in the distance look small but the small ships are right up close...but they could be big ships in the distance.

That's very true. The image relies to quite an extent on the viewer already being aware of how large the various craft are and understanding the perspective from that.
Also, Halo Buff, you're right. The signature looks crap. Still, looking back on this one, I like how I did the missile effects from the raiders.
