very dramatic, but why are these ships this close together?
Phasers and even merculite missiles have effective ranges in the AU range you know... maybe ceasefire negotiations broke down. 
seriously. except for the artistically dramatic effect, ships would only get this close together under extremely restricting circumstances.. where LR sensors are useless.
