Three Earth Defense Fleet Sword-Class destroyers face off against the alien technology of one Patron destroyer from the Delta Pavonis invasion force outside the orbit of Mars. The nanotech streams surrounding the enemy warship prove an unanticipated and frighteningly effective defense against the lasers and railguns of the 21st century human forces. From my novel-in-progress A Sword Into Darkness, a chapter of which is posted in the writer's forum on this very site.
All meshes by me. Mars skin provided by planetscapes.com off their public website. Done in Cinema 4D, Apophysis, and Photoshop. Comments are appreciated.

Love your ships. Actually, everything looks good but.. the composition of the picture is to symmetric... my opinion

Great pic, but seems a bit strange ships don't seem to have their backs covered, can't see any emplacement on the back side

There's not one and it is a failing of the destroyer design -- fixed pretty much for the cruiser version. The lack is mitigated, though by the port and stbd laser mounts, which can access most of the aft firing arc, and by the drive itself. I can't remember who Nyrath (another SFM user) quoted, but they basically said that any truly interesting scifi reaction drive would also make a devastating weapon, a tongue in cheek remark referencing the short story "The Kzinti Lesson" by Larry Niven
