it's a strange solar system. personally I like fantasy-like elements / mystical thingies / whatever in space, kinda like homeworld 2.

I don't know about the lack of a starfield being a problem. What if this system is located on the edge of a nebula or other "cloud-like" phenomon?
Heck, in space, expecially any sci-fi universe; anything and everything can be a possibility.
